11 America's Endangered Historic Sites

The National Foundation for the Preservation of Historical Monuments has published an annual list of endangered historic sites in America from 11. The Foundation focuses its attention on the fact that we can lose the most important natural and cultural sites and structures forever due to neglect, urbanization and other reasons.

1. Hall at the University of Lincoln, PA

This is the oldest building on campus, where for the first time diplomas were given to African-Americans in the country. The building requires a lot of resources for restoration.

2. Bears Ears, Southeast Utah

Five Native American tribes have joined forces to lobby US President Barack Obama and recognize the area in 1,9 million acres as a national monument, which includes caves, archaeological sites and ancient roads. But the foundation notes that the development of energy threatens the national monument.

3. Charleston Naval Hospital, North Charleston, South Carolina

Many American soldiers who were injured in Europe and Africa during the Second World War were treated in this hospital before returning home. But the building is now threatened by a new railway line.

4. Delta Queen, Huma, Louisiana

The wooden ship 1926, the Delta Queen, needs a special act from Congress, thanks to which the ship can sail again.

5. El Paso, TX

Destruction threatens these historic quarters, which form the center of the cultural identity of El Paso.

6. Embarcadero - Historic District of San Francisco, California

The historic district of San Francisco is vulnerable to rising sea levels and seismic activity.

The first permanent English settlement was founded along the banks of the James River. Now this place is under threat due to the development of power lines.

10. Mitchell Park Domes, Milwaukee, WI

The park is closed due to a partial collapse of structures. Against the background of proposals for the demolition of the park, the city is working on short-term and long-term fortification of structures.

11. The Sunshine Mile, Tucson, Arizona

The building is under threat of demolition.
