A married couple from Canon City, Colorado became the first winner of the main prize in the Lucky for Life lottery. They could get $ 1000 a day for a long time, but instead they opted for a lump sum of $ 5,75 million. What is this lottery and which states can still win money.

Colorado joined Lucky for Life in 2016 and is one of 20 states that participate in the lottery. Since 2016, the state has had 19 runners-up, guaranteeing them $ 25 a year for life.

As of June 28, 2021, Missouri, South Carolina and Minnesota have dropped out of the Lucky for Life program, and Missouri has moved to competitor Cash4Life.

The couple, who wishes to remain anonymous, own a bar in Canon City. Colorado Lottery investigators informed the bar manager that the winning ticket had been sold at their store. The owners checked their numbers and found out what they won. Denver Post.

“They have been married 53 years and always spend their anniversary at the state fair, which is now,” said Megan Dougherty, communications manager for the Colorado Lottery. “They are going to buy a new house.”
