Americans leave big and expensive cities: where do they run

Many Americans leave expensive cities such as San Francisco (California), Los Angeles (California) and New York (New York) and move to cheaper ones. Writes about this CNBC.

A list of the 10 most popular cities was compiled according to the Redfin.com report for the 4th quarter of 2019, in which the data of more than a million Redfin users who searched for homes in 87 cities of the United States from October to December 2019 were analyzed.

The data showed that Redfin users in expensive cities like San Francisco and San Diego are looking for homes in more affordable areas that still have the amenities of larger cities like Austin, Texas, and Phoenix, Arizona. This is not surprising: California is one of the most expensive states in the United States, and residents have time and again raised concerns about skyrocketing home costs.

One of the cities that has recently gained popularity is Portland (Oregon).

“Portland has one of the most affordable average home prices of any major West Coast city, making it an attractive destination for incoming residents from other more expensive cities,” the report said.
